Egg Chair

Designed by Arne Jacobsen for the lobby and reception areas of Copenhagen’s Royal Hotel, the Egg™ was created as part of Jacobsen’s vision of total design, in which architecture and furnishings form a unified whole. Sculptural in form, the chair provides a soft counterpoint to the building’s strict vertical and horizontal lines. Developed using an innovative foam inner shell—an approach pioneered by Jacobsen—the Egg™ was shaped through hands-on experimentation to achieve its distinctive profile. Its enveloping form offers a sense of privacy within public settings, making it ideally suited to lounge and waiting areas.
